Clear Blue Water Conservatives

Over on Slugger O’Toole a few people have been describing me as a media whore. Nice.

Now I must say that Mick and his team do a brilliant job. Without doubt, Slugger O’Toole is the finest political blog in the UK or Ireland. The quality and volume of posts is amazing, the variety of perspectives of the bloggers is wonderful, and Mick himself can write brilliantly poignant prose. But the anger expressed by some of the commenters makes Jim Allister seem a veritable liberal.

Get a load of this little lot over on Slugger yesterday. Jeez.

But those who describe themselves as young unionists are really nasty. Nasty little, white knuckled, nerdy wee nits. Conservatives? No. Not in this life-time, not ever.

You see I have this eccentric theory that Conservatives are kinda born Conservative - hard wired as a result of pure Darwinian natural selection. Thankfully, there is some mutant strain deep in my genome that created me all fiscally Conservative and socially liberal. I admit it’s confusing. Gets me into trouble sometimes too. But it also convinces me that somewhere I might be genetically linked to Hayek. Gives me comfort.

Whereas these “Young Unionists” are, frankly, veritable missing links in the political world. All bitter, chest-beating, collarette-wearing, chubby, ill-nourished, and pointless.
